Abington Friends School’s wrestling team earned a decisive 60-0 victory over AIM Academy on Tuesday, December 16, in a meet that was largely determined before the first whistle. AFS fielded a nearly complete roster, leading to six forfeits that immediately put 36 points on the board for the Roos.
The meet opened with a light-hearted moment, as both teams warmed up to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” practicing their shots and pins before the competition began. Once the matches started, however, the tone quickly shifted. Abington Friends capitalized on every opportunity, taking advantage of their fleshed-out middle school team to earn forfeits in multiple early weight classes, building an early lead.

Of the four official matches that were actually wrestled, AFS won all of them by pin. William Newman ‘30 secured a pin at 133 pounds just 1:06 into the first period, followed by Khalil Jimenez ‘27’s lightning-fast pin in just 17 seconds at 139 pounds. Myles Griffin ‘26 secured the fastest match of the evening, having his hand raised in victory just 16 seconds after the match began. The recorded matches came to an end at the 172 weight class with Cormac Linehan ‘28 using the signature “cow catcher” move, with the ref blowing his whistle just after a minute had passed since it started.

After yet another forfeit for Quincy Willis ‘26, the teams decided to call it there, ending the meet with the Roos on top, 60-0. While the official meet was over, the teams then agreed to have off-record events known as exhibition matches, in order to let wrestlers who wanted to face each other but didn’t scrap on the mat for a bit. After just a few more minutes, the Roos won all of those too, with Jacob Wilder ‘27 receiving his first win since joining the team in November.
“Realistically, [AIM] never stood a chance,” said AFS Wrestling Head Coach Matt Mooney. “Even if they won all of their matches, [AFS] would have still won by the sheer amount of forfeits.”
With six forfeits and four pins, Abington Friends Wrestling dominated the meet from start to finish, improving their overall duels record to 9-2, and showcasing their team’s depth across nearly every weight class.
