Soccer Coach Brandon Milbourne leading practice on Varsity Field.
As some of you may know, Brandon Milbourne is a soccer and track coach at AFS. Through his calm demeanor and sense of humor, he has made practice something to look forward to. Unbeknownst to many, Milbourne has fitness and lifestyle pages on TikTok and YouTube, where he provides his followers with instructional and motivational videos.
What inspired you to start a fitness channel on YouTube and TikTok?
What inspired me is I always had a passion for fitness, and I’ve always been good at it. Everybody has a gift in this life, and this is mine. Having a passion for it, I wanted to share that with the world, hoping to inspire others: To show them how to live correctly and efficiently and show them that lifting can be and should be an important part of your life when trying to live a healthy lifestyle.
When doing a little research on YouTube, I discovered the type of money that can come with it. I thought this was really the best of both worlds; I’m doing what I love, and if I keep working, eventually, I can get monetized.
What are your future goals? Do you plan to expand your brand?
I’m studying to get my personal training certification now, so I definitely hope to be in the gym working full-time as a personal trainer. But I wouldn’t mind getting into fitness modeling, too. That comes with building your own brand [and] being a content creator. The main thing is to push my own brand; working for yourself ultimately is the best thing.
It’s clear to see that you are devoted to helping others start their fitness journey, but how did you start yours?
I started playing soccer when I was five or six but didn’t start working out until college. When I got to college, we had a strength and conditioning coach. We lifted maybe two times a week during the season, then during the offseason, we lifted three times a week. I fell in love with just going to the gym and lifting on my own, too. I’d probably say about six years now, that I’ve been really consistent in the gym and I just like to see the results. I like to see myself doing better on the field, being more in shape, and being stronger.
It’s great that you’ve been able to discover your passion, but how do you stay consistent and motivated to be fit?
When you get to a level where you workout all the time, it can take maybe two or three days of not working out, for me at least, to start to feel weird. It’s kind of addicting. Once you start working out and you feel the rush, you feel good and kind of have that natural high; I feel like that’s really important.
