Grade retreats have played a huge part in the start of every AFS school year. The retreats can significantly build connections with students throughout the AFS community.
This school year for the senior class of 2025 marked the second annual trip to Ocean City, New Jersey. For seniors, this is the beginning of the end and can be one of the core memories when it comes to high school. Sydney Coleman ‘25 seemed to find many joys from the retreat.
“I got to talk to people I don’t normally talk to, and we got some friendly competition and we bonded as a grade and community. Went on rides, went on the boardwalk, it was really fun.”
Nathan Bridge, a math teacher and ‘25 class dean in the upper school had some thoughts on how the trip went overall and his perspective from a teacher’s standpoint.
“For the retreat, I think it went pretty smoothly. Of course, I think of it from a logistical perspective. So I’m thinking about whether we got everywhere on time, was everyone safe, was everyone relatively comfortable, did everyone eat well, and I think that those things went pretty well.”
